The Passionate Mom: Dare to Parent in Today's World
I found this book to be a great insightful help to my parenting style. I have a special needs son; I love him to pieces. Not all days are a walk in the park, nor are they with any child. I must say with our son there are challenges that not all parents of special needs children face. I say that with this, that each child is different and therefore their challenges are different. If we face the same challenges, each one of us have a way of helping our child process and get through the challenge. Many have heard me say "A new adventure each day, just don't know where we will begin or where we will end up." I don't mind it; I love it!!!
The Passionate Mom: Dare to Parent in Today's World opened my eyes to many things and also showed me that many things I was already doing with my child were good for him. Susan Merrill shows us the 10 P's that we as Mother's should follow; perception, pondering, passion, prayer, patience, preparation, purpose, planning, problem solving, and perseverance. She uses the life of Nehemiah to show these to us as Mother's and how we can be the best Mother that we can be. An example is that Nehemiah used walls to protect his people. Our children need walls (not literal walls), that is why God gives them Mom's. I know our son needs "walls" it helps him through his day. We give protection and provision as example of walls. We give protection from the exposure to the outside world. We give them the training to help them safely navigate in the world. We want them to be independent of us. We may not always like to let go, but we learn as we go along to let go little by little that when they come of age to leave we know they will be ok. We provide provision for them through emotional, intellectual, and spiritual health. I don't want to reveal too much about the book, but I will say it is a great read!!! Here is a take away that I will leave you with "The only way to fight distraction is with self-control."
