I was reading my devotional this morning and it was talking about how one word in a Bible verse can sometimes make all the difference. It can make a difference in how we understand it, how we receive it, how it affects our lives. This word that I am speaking of comes from the verse found in Matthew 19:16 "Now behold, one came and said to Him, Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?" Think about that, "what good thing shall I do", that implies striving to receive something. No wonder this man went away disappointed! He was all about doing something good to get something great. Salvation is all about receiving, not getting. Salvation is about opening our hands and hearts to receive the mercy of God --- not because we did anything to earn it, but because God did everything to give it.
Grace & Peace,
